Community Mazda Looks Ahead to the 2015 Mazda6
With the 2014 Mazda6 , the popular midsize sedan got a complete overhaul. The 2015 model will be the second of its generation. While it won’t be getting another complete overhaul, there will be some upgrades, most notably a diesel engine option and the new deceleration energy capture i-Eloop system. We’re looking forward to the new model at our Tinley Park Mazda dealer.
There’s been plenty of speculation as to when the diesel engine will be available for the Mazda6. The previous generation had a more powerful V6 engine option, but now Mazda has replaced that with a four-cylinder turbo diesel. It’s capable of 310 lb-ft of torque at just 2000 rpm, so it can certainly offer speed. We don’t know yet how much fuel it will officially save, but reports say that it conserves a third more fuel than the gas engine on the European Mazda6.
Supposedly the diesel will be a late-model addition to the Mazda6, but we’ll see. If not, it will certainly be available right off the bat on the 2015 Mazda sedan.
The Advance Package
Another feature that may be coming to the 2014 model, but will certainly arrive for 2015 is the Advance Package. While tentatively just available for the Grand Touring trim, we can see this being available at lower trims in 2015. Here’s what you get in the Advance Package:
- Lane-Departure Warning: If the vehicle detects you are starting to drift out of your lane, it will alert you.
- Automatic High Beams
- i-Eloop: This is something the geniuses at Mazda thought up. When you decelerate, it takes the energy that would have been previously lost to a capacitor. The capacitor then can power accessories and air conditioning for a minute while you’re stopped and the engine can shut down. This boosts fuel economy with the gas engine to 28 mpg city and 40 mph highway.
